Investment Analyst – Solar Energy & Clean Cooking (Mozambique)

The Investment Analyst is in charge of implementing and monitoring the Grant and RBF (Results-Based Financing) programs of the fund financed by the World Bank and promoted by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy of Mozambique via FUNAE within the ProEnergia+ project.

The fund consists of contributing to and stimulating the growth of the off-grid solar and clean cooking sectors in Mozambique in order to improve access to sustainable energy for Mozambican households and businesses.

The Investment Analyst will implement the activities of the Grant and RBF programs under the supervision of the Finance Officer/Market Specialist in order to contribute to achieving the fund objectives before June 30, 2027:

  1. Facilitate access to quality solar products for 114,000 households.
  2. Facilitate access to clean cooking solutions of verified quality for 200,000 households.


Roles and Responsibilities :

  • Research activities: Conduct research (country, industry, targeted sectors, economic and financial, etc.) to support the investment team,
  • Analysis: Conduct in-depth financial analyses on potential investment opportunities under the direction and in close cooperation with the various subsidy managers,
  • Due diligence: Participate in the due diligence of potential investments. This includes conducting a detailed qualitative and quantitative analysis of the identified companies and projects (financial, commercial, technical, strategic and related socio-economic impact as well as in terms of social and environmental impacts),
  • Decision-making: Assist in the development and preparation of investment recommendations and prepare investment notes for the various risk and selection committees,
  • Disbursement: Support activities preceding the disbursement of funds (from post-approval to pre-disbursement),
  • Monitoring: Actively contribute to the monitoring and control of companies’ investments in the fund’s portfolio until the end of the project,
  • Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and any other relevant reports as part of the performance management of beneficiaries,
  • Administrative tasks: Track detailed financial records of fund expenses and their respective documentation for audit purposes, ensuring that expenses remain within approved budgets,
  • Networking: Develop and maintain strong and productive relationships with companies and partners,
  • Others: Participate and contribute to activities and initiatives related to the fund.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, law, business administration, or other relevant field;
  • Internationally recognized professional accounting qualification would be an advantage (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA);
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in investment and financial analysis, comprising due diligence of corporate and/or consumer finance funding applications;
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools (Excel or other relevant software);
  • Experience in coordinating technical financial processes (e.g. internal control, audit reviews, final invoices, and contract settlements);
  • Understanding of the off-grid solar and/ or clean cooking industry including pay-as-you-go mechanism;
  • Management of grant/ investment servicing and monitoring;
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly;
  • Excellent command and writing skills in English and Portuguese.


Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid work model (Remote + In-office), based on project requirements.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites when required.
